Probably right. One of the funniest things to see (and hear) is a jump master on free fall who has p*ssed of the packer. Rather than unrolling the edges for a smooth opening, if the edges are folded (like in a staic line bag) the chute snaps open and by all accounts almost cuts the diver in half. All you can hear is 'Ohyah dirty B*st*rd!!'. UK military on static line are rolled though. Square sails are rolled.

quite right Jose, they actually use the same folds as they do in the military for low-altitude jumps. Actually, a lot of base jumping's parachute tech. comes from the military, and the military has taken a lot of their newer stuff from professional base jumpers.

my guess is they fold them because my brother taught me how the military folds them and they open pretty fast

base jumping from a paraglider! Wicked! Some of those inflations looked fast. Does anyone know if base jumpers fold or roll their chutes?
