There is now live video of the first giant see squid (octopus don't get as big), scientist caught the first one in history in the deep sea recently.

Sure a great white could snap that octo, but a giant deep sea squid would use a great white as a tooth pik

I would always put my money on the octopus. Simply because the shark must move to breath, they even continue to swim while asleep . So as soon as the octipus got a grip, the shark would either have to be strong enough to continue swimming (unlikly sept in much larger sharks) or it would drown.
No shark would be agile enough to turn and bite an octipie holding onto it, so even huge sharks would eventually tire and lose.

interesting, i always heard the shark had no natural enemies! i wonder if the octopus could do that to a bull shark??

I would have guessed that actually. The shark is relatively small. Had it been a greatwhite or something I don't think the octo would be able to do the same. Cool for the people that study these fishies though.

i feel sorry for the shark.... but i don't feel sorry for pool sharks or loan sharks! ha ha
