dunno if anyone else does this, but when i read posts on the net i kinda get a rough idea of how old the poster is from their language and a estimated number just kinda randomly pops into my head. "all shaky and s**t" "blair witch" "omg what idiots stop filming and help the girl that was freaky" comments like that make your age seem much smaller then it probably is.
one more comment, for that poster 'matt', dude you have got to be one of the stupidest, most idiotic people i've ever come across in posts. this was NOT the blair witch project, it was NOT a low budget film, this was a real event, that actually happened. comparing a home video made in an emergency situation to something like the blair witch movie is one of the stupidest things i've ever heard of. first thing that came into my head when i saw your comments, "this has got to be a 12 year old kid from texas with a redneck for a father, a fat mother who's half mexican, living on a run down ranch with his entire extended family, and last but not least, probably has not learned how to properly have a bath or shower yet." first impressions mean alot, and ignorrant little kids grow into ignorrant adults (notice the whole ignorrance part doesn't go away as you get older). one thing though, even if i'm wrong, you gotta be american. can't think of too many other cultures in the world where that kind of s**tty attitude is permitted and encouraged to grow. try that in france or britain or something, betcha your father would whoop the crap out of ya for sayin' something that stupid. show some respect you whiney little brat

The internet should be reserved for people with brains and fortunately some of you who have commented on the shark attack video appear to have made some excellent comments and observations.. The rest of you.... Well Mankind is doomed anyway.....

Funnily enough i've just watched the video on a documentary and they interviewed the girl in question.
The ship was an oceanic survey vessel and to relieve the boredom the crew got to swim now and again in different areas. She (the girl that was attacked ) worked in the galley and was using the trip to see a bit of the world etc.
Well they had been swimming around for a while and messing about and she'd taken a break and paddled away from the main group when some one in the look out boat yelled "Shark" , she thought it was a joke until everyone started screaming.
You CAN actually see the rest of the bathers climbing the safety net back onto the boat and "the Harpoon" was actually a broom handle (her words) that they tried to get her into the lookout boat with (probably a boat hook handle) but when she grabbed hold the shark managed to grab both her legs and pull her under.
When she surfaced the boat crew managed to grab her and commence a tug of war with the shark as she said "the boat crew got her.....the shark got her leg"
Hope this clears it up.....oh and she was swimming slowly because she was exhausted....

wow that is really scary. i see so much bickering on here that doesnt really make sense. i can onle see one person on here that would really know what they are talkin about and thats the person who has been attacked by that 10 foot bull shark. no person would have any idea what they would do until it happened. i just think that young lady was very brave in order to still get herself to the boat even after seein the shark, myself i would prob pass out. we all know the dangers of entering the ocean but its not gonna stop us from doin it, sharks are predators and unfortunatly we sometimes get in the way, ciao all

Apart from Apes, we are the only animals on the planet with the luxury of having the ability to touch our dinner before we decide if we would eat it. Whilst incredibly intelligent, and possessing an awesome set of senses, sharks can not single out prey as we can. Great White Sharks in particular, if in any doubt about an object's identity will usually take an exploratory "mouth" of the subject. With this action comes rows of razor sharp teeth, combined with hell of a bite pressure all at the end of an animal weighing over a tonne. We equate any "attacks" on humans as a frenzy when it stands to reason an animal this size would do a hell of a lot of damage without even trying. The majority of "attacks" on humans are a single bite, GW sharks have only ever returned for a second bite on very rare occassions. In reality, GW sharks that take exploratory bites will immediately assess blubber content as they are quite fussy eaters, if a meal will not nourish them there is no point (feel free to challenge me on this but you'd have to get the answer from God or a Scientist whichever is available) If this shark had wanted to eat her it would have attacked her at top speed intentionally to cause extensive trauma to prevent her from swimming away. In this case her loss of limb was caused by her colleagues attempting to pull her free. Sharks can get "pissed off" if they feel threatened, but this was not the case here. The "harpoon" was an oar which the other members of the group were hitting at the water with, in an attempt to distract the shark. I read one stupid comment by some hero who seemed to think he could turn the boat around and pluck her out of the water, dream on. This was a freak accident that probably couldn't have been avoided. In reality noone on board the vessel would have known what was the right action to take, other than instinctively try and save a friend. I am well versed with shark behaviour, but I know if I was faced with this I wouldn't have had a clue what to do in the heat of the moment.

To the person who posted the comment before this:
I doubt you have any knowledge of this shark incident. It is incorrect that the swimmers were swimming up an emergency net, and it is not true that she was the slowest out of them. She was swimming unaware that there was a shark swimming beneath her until people started screaming, it was then that she turned around and started to swim more frantically. Also as you stated: "it got a bit pissed when some idiot in the orange boat threw a harpoon or something at it which made the shark attack with more verosity" The shark did not decide to attack her with more verosity due to someone throwing something at it. So are you saying that it got "pissed off" and decided to take its revenge out on the woman? And where in the video does someone throw a "harpoon" at the shark? I didnt see any such thing. So come back and write further when you have done your research

Now, that video was quite shocking. When I watched it, I was greatful that it wasn't me, because I was recently in Hawaii doing the same thing. It is because of these videos posted on hundreds of sites that people fear, hate, and kill sharks. Like Shark Hunter said, what if it wasn't a shark that got her? It sure looked like it, but sharks aren't the only monsters in this world. I wouldn't really say their monsters, really though. I have been site-surfing and have seen many videos on shark attacks today. yes, sharks are scary, but I would not hunt them for sport or look for opportunities to get something on tape like that. Well, thats all I have to say.
