I didnt know there was any controversy surrounding this video. It is NOT an EA-6A, or an EA-6B. IF you look at the tail, you can see there is no radome. It was most likely a Navy A6, although it could have been Marine.

The sailor was a flight deck crewman (Green Shirt) and he was moving in to check the catapult shuttle system that launches the aircraft (A-6 Intruder or EA-6 Prowler). In an interview afterwards he stated that his Helmet (crainial) got caught and kept him from going all the way through. Each aircraft has a different danger area for the Jet Intakes depending on how high they are from the deck. The A-6 and EA-6 and the old A-7 Corsairs have especially low Jet Intakes. The A-7 had a nickname "people eaters" because of the single large Intake on the belly of the aircraft. This happened during Night Ops... an especially dangerous time! Crews work up to 12 & 14 hours on Flight Deck and A MOMENTS INATTENTION CAN BE LETHAL! There are other longer versions of the video that show the quick and immediate response of flight deck crew running to assist. All in all it was a miracle. That incident could have caused the entire aircraft to blow up killing pilot and several others on deck!

Yes, he survived. It was a navy plane!!! The footage of the actual flight deck recording shows him crawl back out of the intake. He only survived because his cranial(helmet) came off of his head and FOD (forieng object damage) the engine. He lost some fingers and looked like a big hickey when he cam back out.

MosNews
An employee of the technical maintenance service of the Moscow Sheremetyevo-1 airport died on Tuesday after he got sucked into a Boeing’s jet engine, the Gazeta.Ru Internet newspaper reports.
The incident took place early on Tuesday morning.
The man, whose name was given as Igor Yelfimov, stayed near the engine of the Boeing-737-700 passenger jet when the crew started it. The plane belongs to Kazakhstan’s Air Astana airline.
The airport’s press service has told the newspaper that the reasons behind the incidents were being investigated and that it was too early to draw conclusions. A special commission has been created which was manned by representatives of the Federal Service of Transport Control, the Moscow Air Transport Prosecutor’s Office and the Sheremetyevo Police Directorate.
The aircraft was grounded after the incident. The passengers were put into a hotel.

Has anyone noticed that his pants almost look as if there is not a body inside them, deflated and without form, soon after his feet leave the deck. Besides, he practically sticks his head right in front of the inlet. I think that this Intruder was on its final mission of making a training film to scare the daylights out of newbie flight deck personel. I'm sure the Navy has some top-notch video editors. But if the Navy says it happened, who is going to argue with them?
