I tried to watch "american football" once. I have never seen such a mind numbingly boring sport in my life. They start a play then its over 5 seconds later, on with a new team then the same all over again.

I'd like to point out that American football is a very complex sport, much more so than rugby. You need to know dozens of plays, each of which needs near-perfect coordination. You need to know techniques for blocking, passing, catching, kicking, tackling, etc. Also, the equipment used in American football is for safety, because it is a rough sport. If rugby players are foolish enough to not wear pads, I think the problem is on their end, not ours.
