Actually if you guys take a psychology or biology class, you'll probably learn why this happens. It's because your eyes are more sensitive to lines and contrasts in color. If square X is surrounded by darker squares, then square X will appear lighter. If square Y is surrounded by lighter squares, then square Y will appeark darker.

I just checked it too... They are the same, i wonder why there is an illusion. Does it have something to do with the green cilinder? or maybe the 'shadow'
